Protestantism is like a rope that becomes unwound in the wind. As the winds of the world, the flesh and the devil blow against it over time, one is eventually left with only one of the constituent threads in one’s hand. Then, that too blows away and one is left with only oneself. So it ends as it began; one man’s private enterprise.
Catholicism on the other hand is like an old tree. Sometimes it grows sickly and literally appears dead. Branches fade, weaken and fall away yet the trunk remains. No matter how sickly it gets, it will eventually spring back with new life. This is because its foundation was laid by Almighty God and no mere man. God who vivified it at its beginning will keep its soul alive until the end of this age–the end of the world.
